Inspiring learning guide, tutor/mentor in multiple subjects, with opportunities for role diversification and advancement.

Because we are an intimate, customer-oriented company, we seek candidates who can thrive in additional roles beyond academic tutoring. Although every successful candidate will be a capable tutor, we also offer opportunities in the areas of college admissions essays guidance, signature course design for individual students, a range of mentorship roles including interest exploration and capstone project enactment, summer programs planning, and managerial-consulting roles working directly with families. Most of the successful candidates will be motivated to grow into at least one of the roles above in addition to tutoring. Exceptionally qualified, interested candidates will be automatically considered for an Associate Director of Education role (trial basis).

  • Location: Remote. To serve our client base, we are looking to make multiple hires covering the United States (PST and either CST or EST), in Europe (any time zone), and in East Asia.

  • Availability: Starting at 4-7 hours per week but ideally envisioning flexibility to go up to 20+ within a year

  • Contract Terms: Minimum 2 years commitment following 3-month trial period, with potential for growth into a senior academic or management role

  • Compensation: Competitive, based on experience, with potential for performance bonuses

Responsibilities:

  • Test Preparation: Provide high-quality, tailored tutoring for students of various academic levels on standardized tests like SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, GMAT, GRE. We will be hiring both STEM and ELA specialists, and we also seek 1-2 candidates who can teach test strategy for both STEM and English sections of standardized tests. At this time, we are not hiring TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo tutors unless they can fill other key roles in the company (e.g., essay support, mentorship).

  • Progress Planning and Tracking: Plan lessons with skills-based objectives 1-2 months in advance (depends on the student) in order to meet specific academic goals. Regularly assess and report on student learning and adjust lesson plans accordingly to meet their unique needs.

  • Engagement: Foster a supportive, motivating environment to build students’ confidence and help them discover and achieve their highest dreams.

  • Team Communication: Maintain regular communication with the Hermiona management (24-hour response time), who who will act as liaison with parents/guardians to keep them informed of progress and areas for improvement.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest changes, strategies, and best practices associated with standardized tests and learning technologies.

 

Requirements:

  • Experience: Proven success in tutoring students with at least 2 years of experience, preferably including syllabus-writing/course design.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner and motivate students with diverse learning styles.

  • Tech Skills: Comfort with virtual teaching platforms, tools, and resources for remote tutoring.

  • Commitment: A strong desire to make a long-term impact on students’ education through tutoring and other roles within the company, with the willingness to commit to at least 2 years with potential for advancement into a senior role.

Ideal Candidate:

  • You are looking for 4-7 hours/week in the next 3 months but open to 20+ hours in the coming 6-12 months.

  • You have a graduate degree or are in the process of completing one (any field).

  • You have completed some form of pedagogical training, including teaching workshops for graduate students.

  • You can adapt your teaching style to meet the needs of diverse learners and conceptualize tutoring around student learning vs teacher performance.

  • You are organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage deadlines effectively in a remote environment.

  • You have experience preparing students for entrace exams such as SAT/ACT, and also either IB or A-levels examinations.

  • You are looking for a role that will become a half-time or full-time job within 2 years.
