The Role:

Math tutors at Hermiona Education play a pivotal role in shaping the academic journey of our students. While some responsibilities include offering academic support in mathematics and acting as a mentor, math tutors primarily prepare students for various standardized tests such as SAT, ACT, SSAT, and ISEE. Tutors must effectively bridge any cultural or personal gaps between themselves and the student to fulfill the goals outlined in the diagnostic analysis provided by the Director of Education.

To excel as a test prep tutor, one should possess an in-depth understanding of mathematics, including core concepts, problem-solving strategies, and test-taking techniques, while having a proven track record of success in teaching these concepts to students. Tutors are responsible for keeping the Hermiona Director of Education updated on student progress and providing monthly reports detailing the student's activities and advancement.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in teaching mathematics

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis)

  • Proven track record of success with previous SAT/ACT/SSAT/ISEE students

  • Demonstrated responsibility, professionalism, and the ability to motivate students with a tailored approach

  • Exceptional organizational skills

Desired qualifications:

  • Previous experience teaching mathematics to international students

  • Previous experience preparing students for AP exams in Calculus AB/BC or Statistics

  • Proficiency in Chinese, Russian, Spanish, or Ukrainian

  • Availability during mornings or weekends

  • 780+ on SAT Math or 34+ on ACT Math

  • Experience teaching in group settings

  • Strong creative teaching abilities

  • Experience working with students ages 10 and above
